Fenaka management meets Gemanafushi Council to review utility services and ongoing projects

By Hussain Shinan Published 9 hours ago

Fenaka Corporation’s Managing Director and senior management have met with the GA. Gemanafushi Island Council to discuss the company’s utility services and ongoing development projects on the island.

The meeting focused on the current status of services provided by Fenaka in Gemanafushi, alongside progress on projects being implemented to strengthen essential infrastructure for the community.

Discussions also provided an opportunity for the council to engage directly with Fenaka’s senior management on matters relating to the company’s operations on the island.

The meeting forms part of Fenaka’s continued engagement with local councils, which play an important role in identifying service requirements and raising concerns affecting island communities.

As a major state-owned utility provider, Fenaka operates electricity, water and sewerage services across a large number of islands outside the Greater Malé region. The geographically dispersed nature of its operations requires the company to maintain infrastructure and technical teams across communities with differing populations, demand levels and development needs.

Fenaka has recently been undertaking a series of upgrades to strengthen electricity generation capacity and improve service reliability in several islands.

Among the recent developments, the company has delivered new generators to HA. Hoarafushi and HDh. Hanimaadhoo, while installation work has also commenced on a new 1,200 kW generator in Sh. Milandhoo.

Fenaka has additionally been extending electricity infrastructure into newly developed residential areas in several communities, including L. Fonadhoo, HDh. Nolhivaranfaru, Th. Buruni and Th. Thimarafushi.

Such projects form part of wider efforts to ensure utility infrastructure keeps pace with new housing developments and growing demand across the atolls.

The meeting with Gemanafushi Council continues Fenaka’s consultations with island-level authorities as the company reviews existing services and development requirements across its operational areas.
