Fenaka Corporation says work is progressing steadily to provide water and sewerage connections to newly constructed housing developments in Thaa Vilufushi and Meemu Kolhufushi, with nearly half of the projects now complete.
According to the state utility company, 47 percent of the project to connect 100 housing units in Vilufushi to water and sewerage services has been completed. In Kolhufushi, progress has reached 46 percent on a similar project covering 100 newly built homes.
Fenaka said the projects are aimed at ensuring residents of the new housing areas have access to reliable utility services as the developments become occupied.
Construction work began last year, and the company is currently focusing on key infrastructure works on both islands. In Vilufushi, crews are laying water distribution pipelines to expand the island’s water supply network, while in Kolhufushi, work is concentrated on installing the sewerage pipeline system.
The corporation said all remaining works are scheduled to be completed by the end of this year, paving the way for households in the new residential areas to receive water and sewerage services.
Fenaka noted that expanding utility infrastructure alongside housing developments is an important part of improving living standards and supporting growing communities across the Maldives. The company said it continues to work towards providing reliable and sustainable utility services in line with the government’s infrastructure development programme.
The corporation also stated that, under the guidance of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, it is implementing projects across the country to improve access to essential public services while ensuring water and sewerage systems remain sustainable and capable of meeting future demand.
Fenaka is one of the country’s largest state-owned utility providers, responsible for electricity, water and sewerage services across numerous inhabited islands. The projects in Vilufushi and Kolhufushi form part of the company’s broader efforts to expand modern utility infrastructure in support of housing and community development nationwide.
