Joined by Minister of Construction, Dr. Abdulla Mutthalib, and senior FDC officials, President Muizzu walked through several towers, closely reviewing construction progress and discussing efforts to hand over completed units to residents. According to FDC, work initiated under the previous government—financed by a loan from India’s Exim Bank—had stalled when this administration came into office. Since then, authorities have accelerated the pace, aiming to complete many units by the end of September.
A central challenge has been ensuring fairness following the previous government’s publication of a beneficiary list after the 2023 presidential election. The Anti‑Corruption Commission (ACC) received numerous complaints, prompting an investigation which found that a “large portion” of listed individuals did not meet eligibility criteria. The Muizzu government has committed to honoring the original list—except for those who deliberately provided false information. Disqualified applicants will receive notifications explaining why they will not receive a flat.
Today’s site visit underscores the administration’s promise to speed completion while maintaining transparency in allocation. With construction nearing its final phase, leadership hopes the first wave of families will move in by September, marking a significant milestone in resolving the housing backlog left behind by the previous government.
