Maldives and Tajikistan Ink Visa Exemption Agreement

By The Standard Published November 27, 2024

In a significant step towards enhancing bilateral ties, the Maldives and Tajikistan have signed an agreement allowing citizens of both countries to travel visa-free for up to 30 days.

The agreement was formalized in New York during a signing ceremony held at the Permanent Mission of Tajikistan to the United Nations. The Maldives’ Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Dr. Ali Naseer Mohamed, and his Tajik counterpart, Hikmat Jonibek Ismoil, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective governments.

This pact solidifies the existing unilateral visa-free travel arrangements between the two nations, marking a new chapter in diplomatic and travel cooperation. The agreement is expected to foster closer ties and encourage mutual exchanges in tourism, business, and cultural engagement.

Both countries expressed optimism about the positive impact this development will have on strengthening their bilateral relationship.
