The Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition has begun a targeted training program in northern Maldives aimed at strengthening the country’s capacity to detect and prevent radicalization within educational settings.
The program, titled Addressing Radicalization in the Educational Environment, opened on 11 November with 22 participants from schools and academic institutions across the region. It forms part of IMCTC’s broader Prevention initiative, which supports member states in confronting extremism through education, media engagement, military cooperation, and financial-security frameworks.
Led by regional experts in pedagogy and ideology, the sessions combine practical case studies with theoretical instruction. Educators are trained to recognize early indicators of ideological extremism among students and to implement intervention methods that promote tolerance, coexistence, and safe learning environments.
The initiative reflects IMCTC’s continued efforts to build national resilience across its member countries. By equipping teachers with tools to counter extremist narratives at the grassroots level, the coalition aims to reinforce long term stability and strengthen community safeguards against radical influences.
