Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has successfully concluded departure operations for Maldivian pilgrims travelling to Saudi Arabia for the Hajj pilgrimage of 1447 AH through Velana International Airport.
According to MACL, the large-scale operation was conducted under a coordinated airport facilitation framework involving multiple government institutions and partner agencies.
The arrangements were carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of Islamic Affairs and Endowments, the Maldives Hajj Corporation, airlines and other relevant authorities to ensure pilgrims were able to complete departure formalities smoothly and comfortably.

Throughout the Hajj departure period, MACL mobilized management teams and frontline operational staff across several departments, including Passenger Services, Terminal Services and Estate Security Services.
The company stated that efforts focused on improving passenger flow, strengthening terminal coordination and facilitating support services for both pilgrims and accompanying family members.
Special arrangements were also introduced at the airport to assist departing pilgrims. These included dedicated waiting areas for pilgrims and their families at the former Domestic Terminal, prayer arrangements for Friday prayers at the Waterfront Building, as well as access to drinking water, ablution facilities and coordinated assistance throughout the departure process.

MACL said the successful completion of the operation reflected the collective efforts of all stakeholders involved.
The company extended appreciation to government agencies, airlines, operational partners and airport staff who contributed to the smooth execution of this year’s Hajj departures.

Every year, Velana International Airport handles large numbers of Maldivian pilgrims travelling for Hajj, requiring extensive coordination between airport authorities, airlines and religious institutions to manage passenger movement and logistics efficiently.
MACL noted that the operation forms part of its continued commitment to delivering safe, seamless and people-focused airport services for travelers passing through the country’s main international gateway.
