This incident occurs against a backdrop of previous allegations against her. General Manager Marteyne van Well faced accusations of unfair treatment towards staff, particularly local employees, with claims of racism and discrimination surfacing on social media platforms.

The resort has not yet issued an official statement regarding the assault on Ms. Marteyne. The hospitality industry in the Maldives has occasionally been marred by disputes between resort management and staff, underscoring the need for thorough investigations and the establishment of fair labor practices.
