The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has signed a series of agreements with the Ministry of Sports, Fitness and Recreation to launch 20 new sports and recreation facilities across 18 islands, marking a significant boost to community infrastructure nationwide.
At the signing ceremony, MTCC’s Managing Director, DCP (Retd) Ahmed Saudhee, signed on behalf of the company, while the Minister of Sports, Hon. Abdulla Rafiu, represented the ministry.
According to MTCC, the projects span a range of facilities designed to enhance sports participation and promote healthier lifestyles in island communities. These include futsal courts, volleyball courts, outdoor gyms, running tracks, football ground lighting upgrades, and other recreational amenities.

The signing ceremony was attended by several Members of Parliament, including Asadullah Shihab (Gemanafushi), Ashraf Rasheed (Faresmaathodaa), Abdul Latheef Mohamed (Dhidhdhoo), Ahmed Naseer (Ihavandhoo) and Hassan Zareer (Mathiveri), reflecting strong political support for the initiative.
MTCC stated that these projects are part of the company’s ongoing commitment to invest in local communities and contribute to the Government’s efforts to improve sports infrastructure across the Maldives.
The new facilities are expected to encourage active lifestyles, strengthen community engagement, and provide better training spaces for aspiring athletes.
