Three Indian Nationals Arrested Following Altercation at Malé’s Artificial Beach

By Ahmed Ashraf Published January 17, 2025

In a recent incident at Malé’s Artificial Beach, three Indian nationals were apprehended by local authorities following a physical altercation. The Maldives Police Service reported that the disturbance occurred around 20:30 local time. During the incident, a Maldivian bystander, who was recording the scene, was assaulted by the individuals involved. The police have confirmed the detention of the three foreign nationals and have initiated a thorough investigation into the matter.

Footage of the altercation has been circulating on social media platforms, depicting a crowded scene at the Artificial Beach. The video shows police officers actively managing the situation, including the moment when an individual was escorted into a police vehicle.

This event follows a similar incident on December 6, 2024, at the same location, where a brawl among expatriates led to public safety concerns. In that case, the primary instigator, identified as 25-year-old Amrit Singh, was taken into custody with the assistance of the Maldives Police Service and is currently undergoing deportation proceedings.

The Maldives Immigration has reiterated its commitment to upholding public safety and has assured that strict actions will be taken against individuals involved in activities that threaten communal harmony. Investigations into the recent altercation are ongoing, and further details will be provided as they become available.
