The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has officially begun practical work to expand Boduthakurufaanu Magu into a modern four-lane highway, marking a historic milestone in Male’ City’s development. The inauguration ceremony was led by Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure Dr. Abdulla Muttalib, who praised MTCC’s pivotal role in delivering the government’s ambitious infrastructure agenda.
The project, valued at over MVR 144 million and fully funded by the state budget, has been entrusted to MTCC as part of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s vision to alleviate traffic congestion and modernize the capital’s roads. MTCC will carry out the works in three phases, with completion targeted within 15 months.
Under the plan, MTCC will construct an 830-meter stretch of road, complete 737 meters of sheet piling, install advanced drainage and service lines, lay tar and sub-base, and create dedicated pedestrian lanes. The company will also install street lighting and road signs, ensuring that Boduthakurufaanu Magu is developed to international safety and quality standards.
Minister Dr. Muttalib emphasized that the government relies on MTCC’s experience and proven track record in handling complex infrastructure projects. He also called on the public to extend cooperation to MTCC teams during construction, highlighting that the work is carefully designed to minimize disruption.
MTCC, the country’s largest public contracting firm, continues to spearhead nationwide projects, from harbor development and coastal protection to major roadworks. Its leadership in transforming Boduthakurufaanu Magu once again underscores the company’s central role in shaping the Maldives’ infrastructure future.
With this flagship project, MTCC is not only building roads but also paving the way for a safer, more organized, and livable capital city.
