Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has launched an awareness initiative to brief local stakeholders on upcoming road and harbor closures linked to the Boduthakurufaanu Magu Road Development Project.
The session, held yesterday at the Malé local market area, targeted business owners, vessel operators, and launch owners operating in the vicinity. Officials explained the scope of the Segment 1 partial closure, which will stretch from the Local Market Area to Izzudheen Jetty, and highlighted the measures taken to minimize disruptions to commercial activity and vessel movements during the construction phase.
MTCC emphasized that the project represents a significant step in modernizing the capital’s transport infrastructure. Once completed, the redeveloped roads will feature wider lanes to ease traffic congestion and pedestrian-friendly walkways to improve accessibility across Malé City. The development also incorporates a state-of-the-art stormwater drainage system, designed to mitigate frequent flooding during heavy rains — a longstanding challenge for residents and businesses alike.
By coupling enhanced road networks with resilient drainage infrastructure, the project is expected to deliver long-term economic and social benefits. Safer, more efficient transport routes will not only streamline mobility for residents but also support commerce in one of the Maldives’ busiest urban centers.
The Boduthakurufaanu Magu redevelopment aligns with the government’s broader infrastructure push, aimed at improving urban resilience and creating sustainable, livable city environments.
