The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has temporarily reopened a section of the Henveiru Ferry Terminal area for vessel docking and maritime operations, providing relief to ferry operators and boat users affected by the ongoing redevelopment of Boduthakurufaanu Magu.
The temporary reopening comes as construction work on the major road and coastal infrastructure project continues at a rapid pace. MTCC said the decision was made after the completion of part of the new quay wall, allowing limited access to a designated jetty within the project area.
Under the current arrangement, vessels are permitted to dock at the jetty located between the Maldives Post Office and Barceló Nasandhura. The area had previously been inaccessible due to construction activities associated with the widening of Boduthakurufaanu Magu and the extension of the quay wall through land reclamation works.
Despite the reopening of the docking area, MTCC emphasized that the site remains an active construction zone. As a result, Boduthakurufaanu Magu from the Henveiru Ferry Terminal to the President’s Office remains closed to the general public and vehicular traffic, even though paving work has already been completed in parts of the section.
The company has urged ferry operators, vessel crews and all users of the terminal to exercise caution when entering the area and to follow instructions issued by MTCC personnel on-site to ensure safe operations.
The redevelopment of Boduthakurufaanu Magu is one of the largest infrastructure projects currently underway in Malé. The project includes expanding the roadway by extending the shoreline through a new quay wall, improving traffic flow and creating additional public and transport infrastructure along the capital’s northern waterfront.
According to MTCC, work on the current phase of the project is progressing according to schedule, with the company aiming to complete this stage by the end of June. The temporary reopening of the docking facility is expected to ease transportation challenges while construction continues toward its final stages.
