President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has appointed experienced diplomat Jameela Ali Khalid as the Maldives’ new Ambassador to the United Kingdom.
The appointment was formally made during a special ceremony held at the President’s Office on Monday morning.
Khalid’s appointment follows approval by the People’s Majlis, as required under the Maldives Foreign Service Act for ambassadorial appointments. Lawmakers unanimously endorsed her nomination following a parliamentary review.
She succeeds Dr Iruthisham Adam, who vacated the diplomatic post after President Muizzu appointed her as Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Khalid brings extensive experience in diplomacy and public administration to the role. She previously served as the Maldives’ Ambassador to Germany and has also held the position of Vice President of the Civil Service Commission.
Her appointment places an experienced diplomat at the helm of the Maldives’ mission in London as the country continues to strengthen its diplomatic engagement with the United Kingdom.
