President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has extended warm greetings to Singapore’s leaders and people as the country marks its National Day.
In a social media message, President Muizzu conveyed his best wishes to Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and the people of Singapore.
The President highlighted the longstanding friendship between the Maldives and Singapore, describing bilateral ties as being founded on mutual trust, respect and a shared commitment to regional peace and prosperity. He also wished Singapore continued progress, unity and success.
Relations between the two countries have strengthened in recent years, with President Muizzu undertaking a state visit to Singapore last year at the invitation of President Tharman.
The visit saw high-level discussions aimed at expanding bilateral cooperation, alongside the signing of three Memoranda of Understanding covering capacity building, education and environmental cooperation.
A Maldives-Singapore Business Forum was also held during the visit, bringing together more than 200 business leaders from the two countries and highlighting investment opportunities in the Maldives to Singapore’s business community.
The Maldives and Singapore established diplomatic relations on February 20, 1975.
Singapore observes National Day on August 9, commemorating its independence in 1965.
