President Muizzu Government Slams Israel’s Forced Displacement Plans, Stands Firm with Palestine

By Ahmed Ashraf Published March 26, 2025

In a bold denunciation, the Maldivian government has expressed profound outrage over Israel’s recent initiatives aimed at forcibly displacing Palestinians from the Gaza Strip and legitimizing illegal settlements in the West Bank. These actions are viewed as flagrant violations of international law and a direct affront to United Nations Security Council Resolution 2334, which demands an immediate cessation of all Israeli settlement activities in occupied Palestinian territories.

The Maldivian government have underscored that such forced displacements and relentless settlement expansions not only erode peace efforts but also gravely undermine the inherent rights and dignity of the Palestinian people. They have issued an urgent call to the international community to take decisive action to safeguard civilians and bring an end to the escalating violence in Gaza.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has been unwavering in his support for Palestinian sovereignty. Addressing the United Nations General Assembly, he emphasized the imperative of upholding the rule of law and advocated for Palestine’s full membership in the United Nations. He articulated that achieving lasting peace necessitates the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

In a demonstrative act of solidarity, the Maldives has taken concrete measures against Israeli interests. The government announced a ban on Israeli passport holders from entering the country, a move aimed at protesting Israel’s prolonged military actions in Gaza. This decision aligns with the nation’s consistent stance of supporting the Palestinian cause and condemning actions perceived as violations of human rights.

The Maldives’ resolute position reflects a broader commitment to advocating for justice and the protection of human rights on the global stage. By vocally opposing Israel’s contentious policies and implementing measures to hold it accountable, the Maldives reaffirms its dedication to standing in solidarity with the Palestinian people in their pursuit of freedom and self-determination.
