President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has inspected the ongoing land reclamation works for the third phase of Hulhumalé, a key project aimed at easing the housing shortage in the Malé region.
The project, awarded to Capital Marine and Civil Construction (CMC), involves reclaiming a total of 63 hectares of land. Launched in September 2023, the project has so far reclaimed 24 hectares. Work was temporarily halted to incorporate revisions to the Hulhumalé master plan.

Reclamation of the remaining 38 hectares resumed this evening, with authorities advising sea vessels operating in the area to exercise caution.

The Hulhumalé Phase 3 reclamation is a major government initiative to expand housing capacity and create more residential opportunities for citizens in the Greater Malé region. The administration remains committed to completing the project swiftly to meet the growing demand for affordable housing.
