President Mohamed Muizzu held high-level talks with Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath on Monday, as part of his ongoing state visit to Sri Lanka, with both sides reaffirming commitment to deepen bilateral cooperation.

During the courtesy call, the leaders reflected on over six decades of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Sri Lanka, underscoring a partnership built on shared values, mutual respect, and longstanding people-to-people ties. They emphasized the importance of sustaining close engagement and expanding collaboration for mutual benefit.

Discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in key development sectors, including environmental conservation, tourism, and trade, areas seen as vital to both countries’ economic resilience and sustainable growth.
President Muizzu is accompanied by First Lady on the official visit, which is being undertaken at the invitation of Sri Lankan President . The visit, scheduled from May 3 to 6, forms part of broader efforts to elevate bilateral relations and strengthen regional cooperation in the Indian Ocean.
