President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has expressed deep sorrow following the death of His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the former Amir of the State of Qatar.
In a post on X, President Muizzu described Sheikh Hamad as a visionary leader whose leadership made a significant contribution to Qatar’s development and progress.
The President extended his heartfelt condolences to the current Amir of Qatar, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, on the loss of his father. He also conveyed sympathies to the Qatari Royal Family, the Government, and the people of Qatar.
President Muizzu concluded his message with a prayer, asking Allah to grant the late Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani the highest ranks of Jannatul Firdaus and bless him with eternal peace and mercy. Aameen.
During Sheikh Hamad’s tenure, relations between the Maldives and Qatar strengthened through closer diplomatic engagement, increased development cooperation, and growing collaboration in education, healthcare, and humanitarian assistance. Qatar also became an important partner in supporting development initiatives in the Maldives, laying the foundation for the strong bilateral relationship the two countries continue to enjoy today.
