President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed the Maldives’ firm commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with India, emphasising a partnership built on mutual respect, cooperation, and shared prosperity.
The President made the remarks in a social media message issued to mark India’s Republic Day, extending warm felicitations to Indian President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and the people of India.

In his message, President Muizzu highlighted the enduring friendship between the Maldives and India, noting that ties between the two nations have been shaped by decades of close collaboration and goodwill. He stressed that the Maldives remains keen to further deepen bilateral engagement in a manner that delivers tangible benefits for both countries.
The President also reflected on the significance of India’s Republic Day, describing it as a powerful symbol of the Indian people’s commitment to independence, democratic values, and principles of good governance. He underscored that these shared ideals continue to provide a strong foundation for cooperation between Malé and New Delhi.
President Muizzu reiterated the Maldives’ aspiration to work closely with India across key areas of mutual interest, reinforcing the administration’s foreign policy focus on balanced, respectful, and forward-looking partnerships.
India celebrates Republic Day annually on 26 January to commemorate the adoption of its Constitution in 1950, a milestone that also marked the inauguration of Rajendra Prasad as the country’s first President.
