Stormy Skies Over Maldives: Met Office Issues White Alert Amid Severe Weather

By Ahmed Ashraf Published May 6, 2025

The Maldives Meteorological Service has issued a White Alert today, May 6, 2025, warning residents and travelers of worsening weather conditions across the archipelago. The alert, effective from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM, covers the region from Noonu Atoll to Vaavu Atoll, with expectations of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds reaching up to 40 miles per hour.

This advisory follows a series of weather warnings issued in recent days, as the nation experiences intensified monsoonal activity. The Met Office has cautioned that the adverse weather is likely to persist, potentially affecting sea travel and daily activities.

Residents and visitors are urged to exercise caution, especially in areas prone to flooding and along coastal regions. The Met Office continues to monitor the situation closely and will provide updates as necessary.
