President Muizzu Salutes Mothers as the Soul of the Nation

By Hussain Shinan Published May 11, 2025

As the world celebrates International Mother’s Day, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu paid heartfelt tribute to mothers across the globe, calling them the silent architects behind the world’s greatest achievements.

In a message shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, President Muizzu extended warm wishes to all mothers, describing the day as a time to reflect on the profound sacrifices, unwavering strength, and unconditional love that define motherhood. “Mothers are the true heroes behind the many successes we witness in the world,” he wrote, capturing the spirit of the day in a single powerful sentence.

Celebrated annually on the second Sunday of May, Mother’s Day is observed in many parts of the world, including the Maldives, the United States, India, Malaysia, and much of Europe. It is a day that transcends borders and cultures, dedicated to recognizing the selfless devotion and enduring influence of mothers.

President Muizzu emphasized that the love of a mother is not just a personal bond—it is a national strength. “Maternal love and sacrifice lay the foundation for every thriving society,” he stated, underlining that the values instilled by mothers help shape responsible citizens and a resilient nation.

While the occasion is one of celebration, the president also acknowledged the struggles many mothers continue to face—particularly single mothers who bear the burden of raising children alone. He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to easing those hardships by pledging increased financial support, including expanded government allowances for mothers in need.

“Our administration is fully aware of the challenges faced by mothers, especially those who shoulder this responsibility without support,” said President Muizzu. “We will continue to take concrete steps to ensure they are not left behind.”

With his message, President Muizzu not only honored mothers but positioned them at the heart of his national development narrative—highlighting their critical role in building strong families, communities, and ultimately, the nation.

As the Maldives joins the world in marking this special day, President Muizzu’s tribute stands as a reminder that behind every success story—whether personal, national, or global—there is often the quiet strength of a mother lighting the way.
