President Muizzu’s Colourful Eid Marches On: Join the Festivities Today & Tomorrow, 4–6 PM!

By Ahmed Ashraf Published March 31, 2025

In a vibrant continuation of Eid al-Fitr festivities, the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has announced that the “Eid Haveeru” celebrations in Malé will extend through Tuesday, April 1. This initiative, spearheaded by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, underscores the administration’s commitment to fostering community spirit and enriching the cultural fabric of the nation.

The festivities, which commenced on Sunday, have transformed key areas of the capital—Sultan Park, Republic Square, and the vicinity of the Islamic Center—into hubs of joy and unity. Families have gathered in large numbers to partake in traditional games, enjoy performances, and engage in various activities designed to celebrate the essence of Eid. President Muizzu, accompanied by First Lady Sajida Mohamed, graced the event, personally extending Eid greetings to attendees and emphasizing the importance of communal harmony during this auspicious occasion.

Highlighting the celebratory atmosphere, a spectacular 30-minute drone show illuminated the night sky over Hulhumalé Central Park on Sunday, drawing widespread acclaim from the public. The MNDF has detailed that the ongoing events will take place from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM on both Monday and Tuesday at Republic Square and the marble area of the Islamic Center. These gatherings aim to unite families, instill a sense of social cohesion, and bring particular delight to children, reflecting the administration’s dedication to nurturing the nation’s social fabric.

In addition to local celebrations, the spirit of Eid has resonated internationally. Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India extended warm greetings to President Muizzu and the Maldivian people, highlighting the enduring cultural and civilizational ties between the two nations. This gesture underscores the broader significance of Eid as a time of unity and mutual respect across borders.

The extension of Eid festivities in Malé exemplifies the government’s proactive approach to cultural celebration, reinforcing the Maldives’ rich heritage and the collective joy of its people.
