State Steps In: Yumnu to Receive Advanced Care in Malaysia as Police Probe Deepens

By Ahmed Ashraf Published April 25, 2025

In a decisive demonstration of its commitment to citizen welfare, the Maldivian government has arranged for 21-year-old Hawwa Yumnu Rasheed to receive advanced medical treatment in Malaysia following her fall from the ninth floor of H. Fentenoy on April 18.

Yumnu, who initially required ventilator support, has shown signs of improvement and is now breathing independently. However, her condition remains critical, necessitating specialized care abroad. The government’s prompt action underscores its dedication to ensuring that citizens receive the best possible medical attention, both domestically and internationally.

This initiative aligns with the objectives of the Aasandha universal health insurance scheme, which provides Maldivians with access to comprehensive healthcare services, including treatment overseas when necessary.

Concurrently, the Maldives Police Service is conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Yumnu’s fall. Raudh Ahmed Zilal, who was present with Yumnu at the time of the incident, has been arrested under a court order. Authorities have also confiscated mobile phones from seven individuals connected to the case and have searched multiple locations as part of their inquiry.

The government remains steadfast in its pursuit of justice and transparency, ensuring that all aspects of the case are meticulously examined. Public concerns have been acknowledged, and officials are committed to keeping the community informed as the investigation progresses.

This incident highlights the government’s dual focus on providing immediate medical assistance to those in need while upholding the principles of justice and accountability. The coordinated efforts of healthcare providers and law enforcement agencies exemplify the nation’s dedication to the well-being and safety of its citizens.
