Tourism media businessman Dr. Sunny Umar has been summoned to the Maldives Police Service Family and Child Protection unit for questioning over multiple sexual abuse allegations involving children from his wife’s family. Police confirmed that questioning took place immediately upon his arrival back in Maldives after a trip abroad.
According to media reports, the accusations involve three children, including a girl and a boy who are both under 18. One additional victim has been described as a woman who was also abused while she was still a minor. Family sources state a total of five victims have been identified so far.
The allegations first surfaced on social media after relatives revealed that Dr. Sunny verbally admitted to abusing the children. Shortly afterwards he departed to New Delhi, India, which triggered widespread suspicion that he was attempting to evade accountability.

Dr. Sunny is the owner of The Travel Guys Pvt Ltd, which publishes tourism magazines Travelution, Maldives Halal Travel, and The Island Post. He also operates a travel agency under the Maldives Halal Travel brand. His once polished public image in the tourism sector is now overshadowed by a major criminal investigation.
Police earlier confirmed they had begun looking into the matter when it was brought to their attention. With Dr. Sunny now under official questioning and one case already filed, pressure continues to build for swift investigative action and transparency.
As authorities dig deeper, the Maldives public demands justice for every child affected in a case that has shaken trust in a prominent tourism figure who once portrayed himself as a national brand builder.
