Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has announced that Velana International Airport (VIA) and the Maamahi Executive Lounge have been shortlisted in two major categories at the World Travel Awards 2026, highlighting the Maldives’ continued recognition in the global aviation and tourism industry.
Velana International Airport has been nominated for Indian Ocean’s Leading Airport 2026, a title it has already won 12 times. The latest nomination reinforces the airport’s reputation as one of the region’s leading aviation gateways and reflects its continued efforts to enhance facilities and passenger services.

Meanwhile, the Maamahi Executive Lounge has been nominated for Indian Ocean’s Leading Airport Lounge 2026, recognising its premium facilities and commitment to providing travellers with a comfortable and high-quality airport experience.
Established in 1993, the World Travel Awards is regarded as one of the travel and tourism industry’s most prestigious awards programmes, celebrating excellence across aviation, hospitality and tourism worldwide.
MACL said the nominations reflect its ongoing commitment to improving airport services, enhancing the overall passenger journey and strengthening Velana International Airport’s position as the Maldives’ primary international gateway.
