Waste Management Corporation Limited (WAMCO) has announced temporary disruptions to its waste management operations following a recent fire at the Thilafushi Regional Waste Management Facility.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, WAMCO said certain areas of the Thilafushi site have been temporarily closed due to the fire, resulting in unavoidable delays to its daily operations.
The corporation said the incident has also affected services linked to Thilafushi, including waste transfer facilities in Malé, Hulhumalé and Villingili. As a result, these transfer stations are currently limiting the volume of waste they can accept until normal operations resume.
WAMCO stated that its teams are working continuously to restore operations at the Thilafushi facility and are closely monitoring progress across all affected service sites. The corporation said every effort is being made to minimise disruptions to the public and restore full services as quickly as possible.
The company apologised to customers across the Greater Malé Area for the inconvenience caused during the recovery period and reaffirmed its commitment to resolving the situation promptly.
