Young Maldivians Invited to Apply for MTCC Marine Mechanic Programme

By Hussain Shinan Published June 20, 2026

The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has opened applications for a new Marine Mechanic Apprenticeship under its Hunavaru programme, offering young Maldivians an opportunity to gain technical skills and hands-on experience in the maritime sector.

MTCC announced that 10 apprenticeship positions are available at the company’s Aftersales Workshop, with the programme aimed at developing a skilled workforce to support the maintenance and repair of marine engines.

According to the company, the apprenticeship will combine classroom learning with practical workplace experience, enabling participants to build the competencies required for a career in marine engineering and technical services.

Successful applicants will undergo training within MTCC’s Engineering and Service Operations divisions, where they will work alongside experienced professionals and receive on-the-job guidance.

As part of the programme, apprentices will also be required to complete MTCC’s C3 Marine Mechanic course, designed to strengthen their technical knowledge and industry expertise.

MTCC said the initiative forms part of its broader efforts to create employment opportunities for young people while contributing to the development of skilled professionals in the country’s maritime industry.

Applicants must have completed their O-Level education to qualify for the programme.

Those selected for the apprenticeship will receive a monthly allowance of MVR 8,000 throughout the training period.

The maritime sector remains one of the most important industries in the Maldives, with marine mechanics playing a crucial role in maintaining vessels used for transport, tourism, fisheries and other essential services.

Through programmes such as Hunavaru, MTCC has continued to invest in workforce development by providing vocational and technical training opportunities for Maldivian youth.

Applications for the Marine Mechanic Apprenticeship Programme will remain open until June 22, 2026.

Interested candidates can obtain further information and apply through MTCC’s official channels.
