Allied Insurance has highlighted the opportunity for industry professionals to exchange ideas and build stronger connections as the Maldives maritime community prepares to come together for the Maldives Maritime Conference (MMC) 2026.
The insurer is participating in this year’s conference as its Insurance and Risk Partner, joining a growing group of organisations supporting the maritime industry gathering organised by Maldives Ports Limited (MPL).
Ahead of the event, Allied shared its perspective on what makes MMC 2026 significant to the company, pointing to the combination of industry knowledge, new perspectives and opportunities to connect with stakeholders from across the sector.
The conference is scheduled for October 5 and will bring together representatives from the maritime, shipping, logistics and related industries, alongside policymakers and experts from the Maldives and overseas.
This year’s conference will be held under the theme “Securing Our Seas, Safeguarding Our Future,” with discussions expected to examine developments and challenges affecting the maritime sector.
For Allied, its role as Insurance and Risk Partner also places greater attention on an area closely linked to maritime operations.
Shipping and port activities involve a range of commercial and operational risks, from vessels and cargo to infrastructure and supply chains, making insurance and risk management an important part of the wider maritime ecosystem.
MMC 2026 is the second edition of the Maldives Maritime Conference, an initiative established by MPL to create a dedicated platform for dialogue on the country’s maritime sector.
The conference was initially planned for April before being rescheduled to October 5.
A number of organisations from across the public and private sectors have joined the event in different capacities.
Maldives State Shipping is participating as Logistics Partner, while Villa Shipping and Trading Company is the Hosting Partner. Public Service Media has been named Broadcasting Partner and Maldives Maritime Journal is participating as Magazine Partner.
The conference is also expected to involve government institutions, security agencies, academia and international maritime organisations, widening discussions beyond port and shipping operators.
The gathering comes as the Maldives prepares for major changes to its maritime infrastructure.
Among the largest developments underway is the planned relocation of the Malé Commercial Port to Thilafushi, a project intended to significantly expand the country’s cargo handling and logistics capacity while easing pressure on the capital.
The government plans to develop the new commercial port across approximately 60 hectares, with facilities expected to accommodate international cargo operations as well as services catering to domestic islands and resorts.
The project is also expected to incorporate warehousing and other commercial facilities as part of a broader effort to develop Thilafushi into a major logistics hub.
For the Maldives, where maritime transport remains central to the movement of goods between islands and almost all international merchandise trade depends on sea transport, changes in port capacity, shipping efficiency and supply chain resilience have wider implications for the economy.
MPL is the state-owned company responsible for operating government ports and port facilities across the country, including the Malé Commercial Harbour.
Through MMC, the company is seeking to bring different parts of the industry into the same conversation, providing a forum for stakeholders to examine emerging trends, exchange expertise and develop professional relationships.
With Allied joining as Insurance and Risk Partner, this year’s conference will also bring risk management into the wider discussion as the country’s maritime industry prepares for the next phase of infrastructure and operational development.
