Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mohamed Saeed has said the Maldives has achieved its most significant advances in the investment sector over the past two years under President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s administration, with government initiatives creating new opportunities for businesses ranging from major investors to small-scale entrepreneurs.
Speaking at the Maldives Expo 2026 awards ceremony, Saeed said the administration had pursued a comprehensive approach to investment development, focusing on attracting large-scale projects while strengthening opportunities for micro, small and medium enterprises.
The Minister attributed the progress to President Muizzu’s economic vision, which he said had provided clear direction for expanding investment, encouraging entrepreneurship and identifying new opportunities both domestically and internationally.
Despite the economic challenges facing the country, Saeed said the government had continued working to establish an investment environment capable of supporting businesses across different sectors.
He highlighted the President’s ambition to increase the creative economy’s contribution to 15 percent of the national economy by 2030, describing it as an important component of efforts to create opportunities for young entrepreneurs and emerging businesses.
Saeed also pointed to the expansion of Maldives Expo 2026 as an example of growing business participation, with the number of exhibitors increasing from 240 last year to 600 this year.
The exhibition will feature approximately 4,400 products across seven districts, including two newly introduced areas dedicated to the visitor economy and international trade.
