President Dr Mohamed Muizzu tonight paid tribute to the sacrifices and dedication of Maldivian soldiers, describing members of the Maldives National Defence Force as the guardians of the nation’s sovereignty and independence.
Speaking at the official ceremony commemorating the 134th anniversary of the MNDF at Kalhuthukkalaa Koshi, President Muizzu said soldiers occupy one of the most honoured positions in the hearts of Maldivians due to their continuous service in protecting the country day and night.

The President noted that although the formal establishment of the military is considered relatively recent in the Maldives’ long history, the country’s independence had been preserved for centuries through the sacrifices and struggles of brave defenders across generations.
“The preservation of the Maldives as an independent nation for thousands of years has been achieved through the dedicated struggles and sacrifices of our brave defenders,” President Muizzu said during his address.
He further stated that every citizen who loves the nation holds Maldivian soldiers in the highest regard, adding that he personally shares a deep sense of respect and gratitude towards members of the armed forces.
The ceremony was held to mark 134 years since the establishment of the MNDF, the country’s primary institution responsible for national security, territorial defence, disaster response and maritime protection.
