Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has officially launched its “Hunavaru” Apprenticeship Program 2026, providing 56 Maldivians with technical training and practical work experience across 14 fields.
The three-month program was inaugurated on Tuesday morning at a ceremony held at the Maldives National University (MNU) Business School Auditorium. MTCC Managing Director DCP (Retd.) Ahmed Saudi officially launched the program, with members of the company’s senior management also attending.
Speaking at the ceremony, Saudi encouraged participants to make full use of the opportunity and work towards becoming valuable contributors to MTCC, their communities and the country.

This year, 56 participants have been selected for the apprenticeship program, which aims to equip Maldivian youth with technical, vocational and professional skills needed in the workforce.
The 2026 intake offers training across 14 disciplines, the largest number of fields offered since the Hunavaru program was introduced.
Training opportunities are available for marine mechanics, mechanics, welders, tinkers, fiberglass technicians, automobile mechanics, automobile air-conditioning mechanics, automobile electricians, electricians, machinists, air-conditioning technicians, bus drivers, taxi drivers and project officers.

Each participant will receive a monthly allowance of MVR 8,000 during the three-month program.
Hunavaru combines educational and practical training with on-the-job experience under the supervision of experienced mentors. Participants will receive technical and professional skills development alongside direct workplace exposure.
The program will also include specialized technical and operational training, as well as customer service, fire safety and awareness programs designed to prepare participants for professional working environments.
Successful participants could secure permanent employment with MTCC following completion of the apprenticeship, subject to their individual performance.
MTCC said the initiative forms part of its broader efforts to increase the participation of Maldivians in the workforce and create more opportunities for young people to develop employable skills.
The company considers the development of essential vocational and technical skills a national responsibility and said it remains committed to regularly providing training and employment opportunities for Maldivians.
