Authorities have initiated an investigation into claims that several Immigration officers have accepted bribes in exchange for facilitating expatriate-related services. The probe follows directives from President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, who has called for stringent action against uniformed personnel found guilty of misconduct.
Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusan confirmed via social media platform X that the investigation centers on five officers accused of violating laws and regulations to benefit certain individuals unlawfully. He described the allegations as serious breaches of trust, emphasizing that they tarnish the integrity of the uniform.
Speaking to Mihaaru News, Ihusan revealed that although no formal action has been taken against the implicated officers so far, authorities have seized electronic devices and conducted searches at their residences as part of the ongoing inquiry.
The Minister reiterated the administration’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption and misconduct. He also drew parallels to a similar operation in June when police arrested 18 prison officers for smuggling contraband into Maafushi Prison.
As the investigation unfolds, Ihusan assured the public that further updates would be provided by the police and other relevant authorities.
