Maldives Embarks on Ambitious Infrastructure Development with Over 1,000 Projects in 2025

By Hussain Shinan Published February 6, 2025

In a significant move to enhance the nation’s infrastructure, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu announced plans to initiate more than 1,000 development projects across the Maldives this year. This comprehensive initiative aims to address various sectors, including water and sewerage systems, educational facilities, healthcare centers, and sports amenities.

During his Presidential Address at the Parliament’s inauguration, President Muizzu highlighted that upon assuming office, his administration encountered numerous stalled projects and several initiatives that had been contracted without proper budgeting or planning, often coinciding with election timelines. To rectify this, the current government prioritized resuming halted projects and ensuring the completion of ongoing ones.

The President assured that between January and March, citizens would witness the commencement of multiple projects aimed at developing essential services and infrastructure. He emphasized that a total of 1,043 projects, encompassing both previously stalled and new initiatives, are slated for implementation throughout the country this year.

This announcement addresses a primary concern among Maldivians regarding delays in project execution. The government’s renewed commitment to infrastructure development is anticipated to bring significant improvements to various communities, enhancing the quality of life and fostering economic growth nationwide.
