Malé Welcomes Its First Five-Star Hotel: Barceló Nasandhura Malé Officially Opens

By Ahmed Ashraf Published April 28, 2025

In a major milestone for the capital’s hospitality scene, Barceló Nasandhura Malé has officially opened its doors, becoming the first five-star hotel in the city. With a prime seafront location offering uninterrupted views of the Indian Ocean, the property promises to redefine luxury urban stays in the Maldives.

Strategically situated opposite the Henveiru Ferry Terminal and just a 10-minute drive from Velana International Airport, Barceló Nasandhura Malé offers both business and leisure travelers an exceptional gateway to the vibrant city life and the serenity of the Indian Ocean.

Developed by Browns Investments PLC in collaboration with Spain’s Barceló Hotel Group, the hotel stands proudly on the historic site of the former Nasandhura Palace Hotel. The new property features 136 elegantly appointed rooms, many boasting spectacular ocean views, along with 116 stylish serviced apartments, creating a perfect blend of comfort, sophistication, and functionality for extended stays.

Culinary experiences at Barceló Nasandhura Malé are diverse and refined, featuring three signature restaurants, a cozy snack bar, and a rooftop shisha lounge, BHeaven, where guests can enjoy signature mocktails alongside stunning skyline views. The hotel is also home to Malé’s first and only oceanfront swimming pool, offering a relaxing escape in the heart of the city.

Guests seeking wellness and rejuvenation will find an expansive spa area, complete with six luxurious treatment rooms, while fitness enthusiasts can enjoy a fully equipped gym overlooking the turquoise waters of the Maldives.

Catering to the growing demand for business tourism, Barceló Nasandhura Malé offers over 1,000 square meters of flexible MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) facilities, making it an ideal venue for corporate gatherings, exhibitions, and high-profile events.

This opening marks Barceló Hotel Group’s second venture in the Maldives, following the launch of Barceló Whale Lagoon Maldives in 2024 — a luxury resort famed for its proximity to the renowned whale shark marine protected area in South Ari Atoll.

With this latest addition, Barceló Hotel Group reinforces its commitment to expanding its presence in Asia, now managing properties across six countries, including Indonesia, Thailand, Sri Lanka, the UAE, and Oman.

Barceló Nasandhura Malé is now welcoming guests seeking an elevated Maldivian experience where city sophistication meets coastal bliss.
