President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has delivered a compelling message calling for unity and national interest to take precedence over political rivalry, during his address to the people of Velidhoo in South Miladhunmadulu Atoll.
As part of his ongoing tour of the northern atolls, President Muizzu underscored the importance of setting aside political affiliations in the pursuit of national development. Emphasizing that the true spirit of patriotism outweighs political currents, he urged all elected representatives—regardless of party lines—to cooperate fully in implementing the government’s development agenda.
“The success of our national development hinges on the support of our Parliament Members and Councillors,” President Muizzu stated. “This is not a matter of political preference; it is about serving the Maldivian people. Elected officials must rise above partisanship and unite for the greater good”.
He reiterated that genuine patriotism involves placing the nation’s long-term interests above personal or political ambitions. According to the President, safeguarding the dignity, stability, and future of the Maldives depends on a renewed sense of national unity and shared purpose.
“Development rooted in patriotism is sustainable, inclusive, and enduring” he affirmed, highlighting that only by rallying around a common national identity can the Maldives achieve its full potential.
President Muizzu’s remarks come at a critical time when the country is undergoing transformative infrastructure and governance reforms. His appeal sends a strong signal to all political actors that cooperation—not division—is key to progress.
As the administration continues to implement its ambitious island development projects, the President’s message reaffirms his commitment to putting the Maldivian people and the nation above all else.
