Shaheedha Mohamed of Team Sea Pearl has been named Best Fisherwoman at Ooredoo Masrace 2026, after recording an impressive catch of 19 fish during the competition held in K. Maafushi.
Ooredoo Maldives announced Shaheedha as the winner of the individual category following the conclusion of the fishing tournament, which brought together teams for several hours of competition at sea.
Shaheedha secured the Best Fisherwoman title after catching 19 fish, with Mariyam Suneetha receiving the award on her behalf at the prize presentation.
The recognition was among the individual awards presented as part of this year’s Masrace, alongside prizes awarded to the highest-performing teams.
The competition saw 14 teams set out from Maafushi at 2:15 pm, with participants returning to the island at around 9:00 pm after completing the fishing session.
Team Enzi emerged as the overall champion with 923 points, securing the MVR 25,000 first prize. The STELCO men’s team finished second with 606.25 points, while Team Avian placed third with 597.75 points.
Ooredoo Masrace is organised as a celebration of the Maldives’ traditional fishing culture, with the company describing the competition as a fishermen’s festival intended to preserve fishing traditions while strengthening friendship and unity among participants.
Fishing has historically been one of the foundations of Maldivian livelihoods and remains closely tied to the country’s cultural identity. Masrace combines that heritage with a competitive format, recognising both team performances and individual achievements by fishermen and fisherwomen.
This year’s Maafushi competition was held in partnership with the Ministry of Fisheries, Agriculture and Ocean Resources.
Shaheedha’s 19-fish haul earned her the top recognition among female participants, adding Team Sea Pearl to the list of award winners at this year’s event.
