The Government has amended the regulation governing financial assistance for single parents, significantly strengthening monthly support and reinforcing President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s commitment to inclusive social protection.
Under the revised regulation introduced today, eligible single mothers and fathers will receive MVR 3,000 per child per month for up to four children. For families with more than four children, an additional MVR 1,000 per child will be provided beyond the first four, ensuring broader coverage for larger households.
The amendment sets a clear ceiling on assistance, with maximum monthly support capped at MVR 15,000, while annual assistance will not exceed MVR 180,000 per applicant. The structured framework is designed to balance meaningful relief with fiscal responsibility, while prioritising families facing the greatest need.
In line with transparency and accountability, financial assistance will be deposited directly into a bank account registered in the applicant’s name. The regulation also allows flexibility, permitting deposits into another party’s account upon request and after careful consideration of individual circumstances.
The updated regulation delivers on a key pledge of President Muizzu, whose administration has consistently emphasised targeted welfare measures to protect vulnerable groups and ensure dignity, stability, and opportunity for Maldivian families.
