The High Commission of Sri Lanka in the Maldives, in collaboration with MOPA, organised a beach clean-up at Fannu Beach in Hulhumalé Phase 1 to mark the Global Beach Day Cleanup Drive, collecting a total of 585 kilograms of waste.
Sri Lankan High Commissioner to the Maldives Mohamed Rizvi Hassen participated in the initiative alongside members of the Sri Lankan diaspora, joining community efforts to clean the coastal area and promote environmental responsibility.
Organisers collected 320 kilograms of general waste and 265 kilograms of plastic waste during the clean-up.
The event was held at Fannu Beach, located behind Dhiraagu in Hulhumalé Phase 1, bringing members of the Sri Lankan community together to contribute directly to protecting the Maldives’ coastal environment.
The initiative highlighted the importance of community participation in keeping beaches clean and reducing plastic pollution, while demonstrating the Sri Lankan diaspora’s contribution to environmental conservation efforts in the Maldives.
