The Visit Maldives Club (VMC) is set to make waves in the sports tourism sector with the launch of its inaugural global sports fishing tournament, “Burunu Boma.” Scheduled to take place between April and May 2025, this event is poised to attract international fishing enthusiasts and local participants, setting a new benchmark for sports fishing in the region.

Mr. Ibrahim Shiuree, CEO and MD of MMPRC, shared his vision for the event: “I hope to see the day when the country will grow in the world of sports fishing. The competition is another step towards promoting sustainable fisheries and tourism initiatives. The Maldives has won the World’s ‘Leading Green Destination’ title for the first time and it is our mission to promote to the world the long-standing sustainable fishing practices of the Maldives. We hope that this event will attract international fishermen and make the country a prominent place for various fields of sports tourism.”
